Presentation for June 18th meeting - IP Networking and Linux

Postby David Miller » Tue May 17, 2011 10:32 am

I was going to do the dead protocol presentation but if no one has any objections I'd rather do an intro to IP protocol.

It will try to cover:
What is an IP network, and IP address?
What is a router, how is it different from a switch, and how does linux handle routing?
What is a firewall and how can iptables be used as a firewall?

How about showing off any LAN only video conferencing software you can find. Something that uses an USB CAM?

And how to throttle bandwidth for various apps.

From what I understand, you can connect with ekiga over the lan just by specifying the IP of the other end. I haven't got ekiga working on 2 machines here, so I haven't been able to try it.

Lets try to get two ekigas talking to each other at the meeting!
